Route 66 & The Land of Enchantment
Did you know New Mexico is home to 535 miles of historic Route 66?
The highway officially opened on November 11, 1926 as part of the new US Highway System. It was developed to connect Chicago to Los Angeles covering 2,400 miles and bringing travelers straight through the heart of New Mexico. It quickly became a lifeline for tourism, trade, and adventure across the Southwest.
Albuquerque sits along one of the most famous and maintained stretches full of vintage motels, neon signs, and classic roadside charm that still draws visitors from around the world today.
From desert roads to mountain views, New Mexico helped make Route 66 legendary.
