A Ride Above It All
The Sandia Peak Tramway is one of Albuquerque’s most iconic experiences — and one of the most impressive aerial tramways in the world.
When it opened in 1966, it was the longest tramway of its kind. Today, it still ranks among the longest aerial tramways in the United States, stretching about 2.7 miles from the base to the summit.
The Sandia Mountains, which are home to the Sandia Peak Tramway, are composed of ancient granite, 1.4 billion years old. A thin veneer of limestone, 300 million years old, caps the granite creating the gentle eastern facing slope.
Over 13 million passengers have been on the Tram in its 60 years of operation.

Can you hear it now?
In 1946 the famous song “Get Your Kicks on Route 66” came out. Did you know it was written by Bobby Troup after a road trip with his wife along Route 66. And the famous voice of the song is Nat King Cole.
Can you list three of the famous cities mentioned in the song?
