TRAM 2024
Modernizing for the Future
Get Updated! Because We’re Upgraded!
We are reopen! Check out the videos below regarding the updates we performed on the tram over the last few months.
Episode 1 – Modernization Intro
Sandia Peak Tram is excited to announce that we will be updating and upgrading our current drive and control system. The current system has served us well since 1966 but it is time for a modernized, automated and more energy-efficient system. In addition to the controls, we will be renovating the Lower and Upper Terminal’s Tram Consoles, the drive and control room and adding solar-powered cameras and weather stations on Towers 1 & 2.
Episode 2 – History of Solutions- A Closer Look: For the Tech Enthusiasts
Check out Episode 2 of the Sandia Peak Tram – Modernizing for the future.
This video was created for the tech enthusiasts! Watching this, you will discover the intricate history behind the Sandia Peak Tram’s Drive and Control system from the 1960’s showcasing the exceptional work of the local engineer, Dr. Dave Koller, himself.
Episode 3 – Wires, Cables and Panels, Oh My!
Explore how the wires and cables are placed in the underground cable chaseways and how they will connect to the new drive panels and control screen at the Tram.
Episode 4 – Crossing the Milestone
Join us as we unbox a major milestone in our maintenance project: the new AC motor, which has successfully completed its first test run. This motor will power our new, modernized Tram system, replacing the old DC motor.
Episode 5 – Towers, Cameras, Action!
Technology and the Tram have collided! Join us as we take you in the air this time to see the latest upgrades to our towers. Each one has two cameras placed directly over the track ropes to detect any deflection, notifying our lower terminal console pilot and providing us with real-time weather monitoring. This is a replacement for our old weather system that has served us well, now its time for our changes to help us better predict the weather’s changes.
Episode 6- We are Modernized for the Future
We’re proud to have been part of Albuquerque’s tourism scene for almost 60 years, offering both locals and visitors from out of state a unique way to experience the mountains and all they have to offer. In the past few months, we have installed a new motor, updated our drive and control systems, and implemented weather technology on both our towers, tram cars, as well as our upper and lower terminals. These changes are an investment in the future of the Sandia Peak Tramway. Thank you for staying updated while we got upgraded. We can’t wait to have you back creating memories with your loved ones.
