There’s no such thing as an ordinary day at Sandia Peak. Here is a sample itinerary to help you get the most from your visit. Keep in mind that your actual travel and wait times may vary. You’ll want to allow at least
30–45 minutes for the tram ride up and ample time to explore at the top.
Buy Tickets Online
Save time and avoid the ticket line by purchasing your tram flight ticket online. All tram tickets purchased online must be purchased at least a day in advance for processing. Limited quantities available online, please visit the ticket office for first come first serve ticket purchase.
Keep an eye on the weather. Being located in the mountains, weather is ever-changing. At times we can experience delays and closures for lightning or high winds.
Arrive and Park
There is a cash-only parking fee of $3 for each vehicle accessing the Sandia Peak Tram from the base of the mountain. You can also purchase your parking fee online. Those being dropped off at the lower terminal will not be required to pay the parking fee.
Accessible parking is located in the upper parking lot of the lower terminal, east of the building along the mountain side. An elevator will take you to the second floor for flight ticketing and boarding.
NEED A RIDE?
Try TRAMsporter! The ABQ Trolley Co. offers rides from several downtown ABQ hotels to our front door. This service is provided May 1 – September 30 only. Visit abqtrolley.com for info.
Purchase your tickets at the desk and receive your boarding pass. About 10 minutes before your flight you will be asked to wait in the queue to board. Once all passengers are loaded on the tram, you will experience the 15 minute ride to the top. Your knowledgeable tram operator will serve as your guide.
WHAT TO BRING?
A jacket or sweater (temperature at the top is always cooler), sunscreen, water, sunglasses, a hat! Forgot something? We have a great selection in the Sandia Tram Gift Shop.
Enjoy the View
You will be transported 2.7 miles above deep canyons and breathtaking terrain. Your vantage point from the observation deck at 10,378 feet provides 11,000 square-mile panoramic view of the Rio Grande Valley. Don’t miss sunset, when the desert skies produce a spectacular array of color!
Grab a Bite
Sandia Peak Tramway has two unique restaurants for you to choose from. Sandiago’s Grill at the Tram, located in the lower terminal, offers a unique blend of New Mexican fare with farm-to-table dishes. Once you reach the top of the mountain, the brand new Ten 3 restaurant offers fine and casual dining with incredible views. Both restaurants offer a bar area if you are leaning towards a quick bite, or a refreshing beer or cocktail.
Come on Down
Stay as long as you like – there are two tram cars and they run every 15-30 minutes. Boarding is based on first come, first serve. While you wait, experience year-round interpretive exhibits and seasonal programs in the upper terminal. Last flight down differs, so be sure to check. There is always a friendly face to answer any questions you may have.
GRAB A SOUVENIR
Don’t forget to stop at the Sandia Tram Gift Shop to commemorate your trip to The Land of Enchantment. We have some beautiful and unique items that we know you will enjoy!
